I much prefer a slow build-up to visual novels where the characters have sex a few minutes after meeting each other for the first time. That’s certainly a valid point of criticism, but it didn’t reduce my enjoyment of the games too much.
The Flatcheez series has been criticized for blue-balling the player since all erotic scenes come to a sudden halt right before any actual sex may occur.
